Learning to feed my soul. . . not my face

Tuesday

Welcome to Tuesday. Tuesday's reputation (at least for "first weekers") is that it is harder than Monday. Well, it's true. Yesterday I was excited and had energy. . . today I felt tired and sore. I'm not complaining, I just didn't expect to feel so sleepy/tired. My schedule today was a little more relaxed, if you will, in the morning (not counting the hike, which was intense!) but I had a couple of lectures in a row right after breakfast, and found it hard to keep my eyes open.

So, the hike today was called Camelback. Wow! An amazing hike through sand, and up steep rock inclines.

The vans all lined up and ready to go.

A view from the start of the hike. Yep, we are going up there
(See the two small humps right in the middle? That's where we are going!)

The first of many inclines.

We are getting closer. Do you see that little speck at the tippy top? That's a person.

Almost there. This picture doesn't really do justice to the drop-off that is to our right.

We made it! This was taken between those two little humps.

Me hanging out on the side of a rock. I'd wave, but. . .

Shadows against "The Vortex." Can you guess which one is me?

So, just for fun, some of us decided to go up to the top of this second rock.

In this picture, the second climb is the larger hump on the middle, left.

I made it to the top of this one, too!

Lots of hiking through sand on this hike=difficult, especially at the end of a hike.

Let's get to the food for today! Yesterday and Sunday night, I thought I would be VERY hungry only subsisting on 1200 calories per day, so I supplemented with salads from the salad bar at lunch and dinner. Today, even going into lunch, I wasn't really feeling very hungry, so I skipped the salads. At lunch, I wasn't even sure I was going to finish my sandwich. And the dinner was very filling. All of it was quite delicious, too! (I'm totally getting the cookbooks!) Our menu for today:

Look at the calorie count on that parfait!

The parfait. . . actually quite filling. There is granola at the bottom, and the yogurt is
Greek yogurt mixed with some kind of berries. Yum!

Tomato soup. Um, yeah. . . I may become a soup lover. Very yummy!

Mixed salad and a turkey sandwich. Not huge, right? SO filling.

Now, normally I wouldn't eat those sprouts on the sandwich, but I'm here to learn new things, so I ate them. DELICIOUS!! Plus, there were red onions on both the sandwich and in the salad, and I couldn't even taste them. The taste did linger in my mouth for another hour, or so, after eating them, though. Oh well, we are all stinky here at this resort!

The enchilada. This seemed like a huge portion. And those beans were PERFECT!

Now that I look at this, that is not chocolate coconut sorbet. It was really raspberry sorbet.
It wasn't as good as the pineapple sorbet, but still delicious. Oh, and I scarfed mine up
before taking a pic, so this is someone else's partially eaten sorbet. :)

I didn't believe that 1200 calories would get me through the day, when I'm working out 6-8 hours every day. It's amazing food! Good food, highly nutritious, and lots of volume, and it really sticks with you!

As for the exercise today, the hike was about an hour long because we had to drive about 25 minutes away from the FRidge to get there. And I don't have a mileage on it, either. After breakfast and a lecture on emotions (which, of course, made me cry!) I had a choice of doing a weight training intro or a pool class. . . I chose the pool class. It was tough. It is actually quite hard to work out in the pool and get your heart rate up (without drowning). It was nice, however, to give my ankles a break  and get the weight off of them in the pool. (Did you see the inclines on that hike?! Ouch!)

After lunch, we had a little game about guessing how many calories in some Chinese food selections from PF Chang's and Panda Express. Very interesting! (Plus, I got to sit across from Matt Hoover. He's going to give a little lecture about The Biggest Loser on Friday! Yay!) And then we had a cooking demo from the wonderful chef. Lots of ideas.

Then it was off to my 3 afternoon classes. First I did a cardio intervals class, which, I think, is what Jillian and Bob have The Biggest loser contestants do: walking at a comfortable pace, then pumping it up really high for a minute, bringing it back down, and repeating several times. I actually RAN today, people!! Second I did a Total Toning class: OY! is about all I can say about that! Lots of squats and working with weights. And my final class was H2O intervals, which was actually quite difficult just coming out of the toning class. Again, working against the water is really hard!

Then, hot tub, shower, dinner, nutrition class, and then a group of us gathered to watch Jillian's Losing It!

Day 2. . . done!

I love reading all of your comments! It really keeps me going, so thanks again. Let me know if you want to know something specifically, otherwise I'll just keep on with this kind of format. (Do you like seeing the food? Do you want to hear about the hikes and exercise classes? I aim to please!)

Goodnight

  7. Way to go again, Sio! As you know, I'm a sucker for great photos. My fav so far (besides all the ones you're in) is the silhouette shadows on the rocks. Reminds me of the Indian fertility god Kokopelli. Keep up the good work! You can do this!
